Welcome to the East Texas STEM Center
The East Texas STEM Center (ETXSC) is a component of the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Initiative designed to build on national, state and local efforts to improve science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) achievement among Texas students. The ETXSC is piloting innovative ways of delivering science, engineering, and math education and focus on increasing the number of students who study and enter science, technology, engineering, and math careers.
The ETXSC recognizes the urgency around maintaining economic competitiveness in the 21st century and the vital role that high schools and institutions of higher education play in preparing students to compete in the global marketplace. By aligning high school and college redesign efforts with the goals of the state’s economic development activities, the ETXSC will help Texas transform science, technology, engineering, and math education and thus lead the nation in addressing this issue.
The ETXSC provides technical assistance to rural East Texas school districts, particularly those with high need schools, to improve student performance in the areas of math and science and to prepare students for college and entry into STEM professions in the areas of Engineering and Earth Systems Science.
The ETXSC staff conducts research, develops curriculum and provides an array of services and programs designed to assist secondary schools and institutions of higher education to improve STEM education.
