The East Texas STEM Center is housed at the University of Texas at Tyler. The center's primary service area includes Educational Service Regions V, VI, VII, and VIII. The center focuses on assisting schools in rural areas statewide and specializes in preparing teachers to assure students are college ready. The center has additional expertise in Vertical Curriculum Alignment, Engineering Education, Earth Systems Education, and STEM Education Technologies. Participants will receive CEU hours for all ETXC programs. In some cases, graduate credit is available at an additional cost. For additional information please contact:

The East Texas STEM Center is home to the TRC for both Science and Math. Serving teachers from Tyler and Palestine, the Center provides professional development originating from the Texas Regional Collaborative Network.
Throught the East Texas STEM Center, you can gain access to the NSTA Learning Center. The Learning Center is NSTA's e-professional development portal to help you address your classroom needs and busy schedule. You can gain access to more than 3,100 different resources that cater to your preference for learning. Over 870 resources, such as journal articles, science objects and web seminars. A suite of practical tools such as My Library, My Transcript, and My Professional Development Plan and Portfolio tool help you organize, personalize, and document your growth over time. ESSEA delivers a student-centered teaching model for geoscience education to university faculty, as well as pre-service and in-service middle-high school teachers. Teachers take a prototype NASA course online, and upon completion they receive a $500 stipend and 45 CEU credits
The AP institute provides K-12 teachers professional development and resources to engage students in high-level learning. The institute aims to ensure that every high school student develops the skills, habits of mind, and concepts needed to succeed in college. For K-12 Teachers, there are AP® and pre-AP® workshops for the teaching of English, mathematics, sciences, social science & history.
The College Readiness Symposium is designed for teachers, school administrators, counselors, community college and university faculty, school-board members, policymakers, parents, and the business community. The symposium provides information on the Texas College Readiness Standards, P-16 Activities, Vertical Alignment activities underway at the ETXSC, and provide research synopsis, tools, and strategies for preparing children to be college ready upon graduation from high school.
GLOBE focuses on student inquiry in the sciences with a focus on measurement (a weakness in TAKS math and science assessment scores) and the nature of science. Teachers are immersed in a water quality project that can be implemented in their schools. Learning outcomes for students include mastery of science process skills with an emphasis on measurement. Teachers are also trained in GLOBE’s data analysis and visualization tools.
This workshop focuses on using technology and project-based learning to improve engagement and achievement in STEM. From building and designing payloads for satellites, the use of hand-held PDA’s, computers, and other tools will be examined for improving STEM learning. ETXSC partners with PASCO and Vernier to assist in the development of this training.
This comprehensive suite of instructional videos may be used by an instructor to refresh content knowledge, differentiate instruction, enhance presentation and/or support homebound content acquisition.
The core training is an integral part of a 3-phase professional development program that is offered during the summer on university campuses around the country. It is a foundational component of teacher preparation that is necessary to ensure an instructor’s readiness to deliver PLTW curricula to students. The Summer Training Institute (STI) provides a collaborative setting where teachers are immersed in content-specific, project-based instruction.
